Bayville Park Busing Resolved!

After receiving a letter from the president of the Bayville Park Blvd. Civic Association requesting that they no longer use the association as an excuse to deny bus service to the area, the LVCSD has decided to restore the service on a trial basis.  The following e-mail was received by one of the parents who has been fighting for this cause since the beginning.  It was sent by Adriana Silver, Assistant Superintendent for Business, LVCSD:

You’re the very first person to hear this news. The district will begin a pilot test of a MS/HS run in your community after school begins, but early in January. The test is expected to last several weeks. We will see if we can make this change without impacting our transportation budget or delivery of students to the school. The pilot will not include late runs.

Hopefully, this will lead to permanent full service being restored and we can put this issue to rest. Again, credit to Roberta and the BPBCA.

    Barry,

I believe I pointed this out to you somewhere else, but the district will not be RESTORING service. This service was never provided for MS/HS students. Sorry to be picky.

Furthermore, a great deal of credit should go to the diligent parent who doggedly kept after both the Association and the district to arrive at some kind of resolution. And also to you for posting the info about the NYS Village Law.

The Association was never against the parent. Nor did we ever try to stop her efforts, in fact we welcomed her help. WE also did not need her to "keep after" us.Usually we found our information out the same time or before the parent did. All we asked from her was that she had patience as we looked for the truth. The truth is all the New board of officers was after. We all (the board of officers) worked VERY, VERY hard and long to get this resolved as quickly as possible. IT just takes an enormous amount of time and effort in this neighborhood to uncover the truth.

    Roberta,

My comment was not meant to demean your excellent efforts, only to praise the diligence of a parent who did more than just complain about an issue and let it drop, as many people do when faced with conflicts. You are to be commended for assisting and moving things along as quickly as possible.

At this point in time it is very satifsying to know that our children will not be in danger "for a month". There is no doubt in our minds that the board for the association has worked very hard in restructuring and fact finding. We also believe that the school district worked just as hard as well in trying to facilitate a solution. It would be really nice if this issue could be put to rest and permanent bus stops be established in the bayville park area. We think the residents that have challenged the bus stopping in this area need to realize that times have changed and children's needs should come first. Shame on anyone who thinks otherwise.

I want to thank the new board members of the Bayville Park Blvd. Association and the District for working with us to protect our children and get the bus situation solved. Unfortunately many residents do not understand that in this day and age we have so many more cars on the road, and child molesters in our neighborhoods that it is not safe to even let children outside alone. Why should they walk to and from bus stops that are dangerous and potentially unsafe? As a mom who is always at the stop for her children I feel it has now become a matter of equality. The Saint Dominic children of the development going to elementary school should also have a bus stop within the development. Why should these small children go outside the area to get a bus? Aren't all of our taxes the same? Those families with children in Catholic school do not get a tax break. All children should be treated equally and safely!

I agree with you 100% but I just also want to thank barry lamb as well. After reading his comments on the blog, I contacted him. He helped me with some crucial legal information on this issue and I firmly believe that it played a major role in the current results of this issue.

I was present to witness the first bus of the "pilot" run arrive a few minutes before the 7:00 AM scheduled pick up at Summit View and Bayville Park Boulevard this morning. Two LVMS and 3 LVHS students got on at that stop before sunrise.
