Steep Slope Conservation

Subject: Steep Slope Conservation

A number of local communities have recently enacted what are called "steep slope conservation laws".  To put it simply, these laws make it illegal to develop land that is steeply sloped.  These laws recognize that development on steeply sloped land often leads to serious problems with runoff - especially during heavy rains.  This, in turn, can lead to increased pollution of our ground and surface water.

I do not believe that Mill Neck has such a law on its books.  Can anyone put me in touch with a conservation minded homeowner in Mill Neck who would be willing to try to propose the adoption of such a law by the political authorities in Mill Neck?

Thank you,

Seth Watkins

    Seth,

I spoke to someone about the steep slope law and was told that they are considering one right now for adoption.

The details were not discussed, but it should go a long way towards protecting the hillside bordering the Creek (which I know you have been concerned about)
