Barry,
Great article covering this in this weeks Leader.
You can read the article online.
Quick question, maybe you can answer, Mr. Rabin said that the contamination in the creek is particularly harmful to young boys. Do you know what the contamination does and why it is harmful to young boys?
Also, the village does a water quality test in the creek (I think yearly, don't quote me on that.). Last years report stated that the water in the creek was actually good.
Do you know anything about this??

Hey Margaret,
Water quality monitoring is done weekly by Friends of the Bay. The Village did a Non-Point Contamination Source Study last year to identify sources of pollution running into the bay. That study used the data from FOB for part of the analysis.
As for Kyle's statement, he may have been referring to recent studies that have been in the news regarding a class of chemicals commonly found in household cleaners, personal care products and pesticides, that interfere with estrogen in the body. They have been associated with breast development in young boys. All of these products would be commonly washed down the drain and could wind up in the food chain in the bay. I'll ask Kyle next time I see him if that is what he was referring to.

The chemicals are called NPE's (I couldn't remember before but it came to me in my sleep). Here is a link to an article about them.

I would imagine this is exactly what Kyle was referring to.

I will be at the meeting and so will Kyle Rabin. I believe the meeting is primarily intended to bring people up to date and to address the concerns of the residents in the area. From everything I'm hearing the project is still going forward as scheduled. Hopefully they will take whatever steps are necessary during the design and construction to ensure that noise, odor and aesthetic issues are addressed.
My one concern is that I have still not seen a press release announcing that the intermunicipal cost sharing agreement has been signed. Surely a simle 50/50 agreement can't take this long to draw up - a good question to ask at the meeting.
All who are interested should make an effort to attend.
