Smithers' on YouTube
Friends of the Bay has put together a YouTube video that shows how well the Smithers' property compliments Shu Swamp, Beaver Lake, Mill Neck Creek and the Oyster Bay National Wildlife Refuge. It's must view for anyone that is not familiar with the property. It's also a must view for any of our elected officials who may plan to vote against the acquisition without having bothered to walk the property. The e-mail that follows was sent out this morning:

I understand the whole Planning, Dev't & Env. Committee listed in the above post votes as well, so it wouldn't hurt to send emails to them as well!

The Northender has a good article that shows the ridiculous partisan nonsense that has derailed this acquisition. I would imagine that more than a few republicans were among the 77% of the voters who approved the Environmental Bond Act.

The MBR plant that was proposed for Continental Villas at the Aug 2007 meeting at the Locust Valley Library is not yet out of the running, but the Glen Cove connection is gaining steam. Anyone interested in learning more, try Google, search "MBR plants". These plants are cropping up all over the country and are in use in Europe and Asia for years. They are used to reclaim fresh water from waste. The literature is very favorable. Some counties are using them in addition to sewage treatment plants to produce a cleaner end product. The more you read about them the better they sound, so why isn't this MBR plant being pushed? Ask the politicians. I think the Glen Cove pipe is more taxable.
