Live from the West Wing
General discussion about the current administration and their performance, challenges and accomplishments. Starting with President Barak Obama in 2009, this will be an ongoing thread following future administrations. If someone wants a thread on a specific subject please email admin@bayvilleblog.com and it will be set up. Please include a brief description of the thread when submitting request. Remember, you are responsible for your content, please keep it constructive and free of personal attacks. All have the right to their own beliefs and opinions. Please use your head when posting, targeted threats against heads of states whether written spoken is a serious offense.

Rather than focus on a National/International level of change and concern, for the very moment at least I am truly concerned over the overall image of our own Bayville itself. I can't be the only one who is noticing a rat infested, deteriorated strip that has been ignored for so many years. I am sad to call this my town. Outsiders are inquiring as to what's happening and I have no answers. I want to move in a direction of growth and change and need help to do it. I have been apart of Bayville since I was very young and always proud to be. I am embarassed to witness this shadow of a once prosperous and well known village become a gray looking ghost town. This certainly is not helping with our finances and is turning people away from enjoying and investing in a truly beautiful area of Long Island. We have invested in a Gatsby like boardwalk and beach house and now we need to work on getting some revenue ivestor's into our town. We have the best kept secret that needs to be marketed to attractive businesses who can trust that they can make a living here. I would love to hear from other concerned Bavillians and together let's see what can be accomplished to turn this village around. I love Bayville and it hurts to see businesses leaving every year and no one is coming to replac them. We have so much to offer and should get the message out there to entrepeneurs looking to build or relocate their businesses. We can find a way to help them establish themselves in our fabulous village. I look forward to moving forward with the help of like people so that we may ride down Bayville Avenue with the pride that it deserves.

I share your view that the key to prosperous development is to attract new business to the town; the village administration, and come to that individual residents, can only do so much. The establishment of the Bayville Chamber of Commerce is an excellent start, and I've been giving some thought myself in marketing terms (which is one of the things I do) as to how to promote opportunities in the right way i.e. to attract the right sort of investors, and not necessarily only those who will simply make Bayville a northern "Party Town" for the South Shore.
We're in the wrong thread here, of course, so perhaps Admin will consider setting up a thread on ideas for such development. I'm sure we'd get some great input, as views on the subject are scattered throughout many other threads.
Meanwhile I'll put my own first comment in this "Live from the West Wing" column. That is: I'm hoping that we can generate some really useful commentary and criticism as appropriate, but without the sniping, personal attacks and local bickering that often pervades other threads. I'm guilty too, I'm sure, but we should collectively clean up our act if this blog is to be of any use to anybody.
In my view, nobody - except, clearly, Rush Limbaugh - should want this president to fail. It is not in this country's best interests to even talk that way. Whether Barack Obama or John McCain had been elected, I would support everything the new president tried to do. Criticism is vital, yes, and useful, and there'll be plenty of opportunity to air views on all subjects; but PLEASE, let's have less of the unconstructive attacks.

Hi Pat,
There is a thread called Village Aesthetics that was started in February 2007 that addresses those issues. Here is the link, or you can find it in the sidebar under "Category Archives":

Live From the West Wing is very cute, Jeff. Thank you for providing more bandwidth.
It is especially apropos since we have a President and VP who are running this country like an SNL skit. I have never before in my adult life been terrified of what the American public elected. I am now.
Tomorrow Newsday will publish a letter I wrote to the editor. The "global" equalization educational reform agenda of Obama/Duncan/Paterson/Suozzi affects us all.

I'm sure by now you've heard of the almost one trillion dollar stimulus package moving through the U.S. Senate.
But it's not really a stimulus bill. It's a big government, big corruption, and big pork bill.
Among many other wasteful, non-stimulative projects, it includes $650 million for digital TV coupons, $1 billion for climate satellite and habitat restoration programs, and $600 million to replace a portion of the federal government vehicle fleet.

Talk about fearmongering..... did all you Obamamaniacs hope that CHANGE meant threatening "irreversible catastrophe" if The One didn't get his goodies right this very second? A sorry parade of corrupt Cabinet nominees with one pathetic excuse for their "mistakes" after another.
I understand that if the VP and then the Speaker of the House are unable to fill the Presidency in the event of tragedy, the next in line is Secretary of State. Oh Hillary, you devil you.

Hi Anonymous,
I think it should be pretty obvious to every Obummer supporter, less than 30 days after taking office, that their Omnipotent One is a liar, a traitor, a Marx-st and enslaving this country to the World Bank and ultimately a One World Government under the UN. Putting a token Republican in charge of Commerce and then MOVING the U.S. Census Bureau to the White House is UNCONSCIONABLE! Rahmbo being allowed to manipulate Electoral districts????? I'm telling you there is going to be a revolution in this country, an absolute revolution. According to The One, we are a nation of Christians and Muslims....oh yeah. As to the reason Obummer is closing Gitmo... it is because he wants "the so-called terrorists" to LIKE US! They should have more Constitutional rights than Michael Phelps, right? Hillary wants Iran to "unclench its fist" dontcha know?
The Fairness Doctrine? The Truth Commission? Do you think there might be a reason for the cost of ammo going up 100%?

Ah, but Lisa, you need to read the magazine. You'll find that your hated word is used more as indicative of George Bush's legacy than what President Obama has inherited and now has to deal with.
Anyway, the meaning of social-sm has changed considerably since you ran around taking pot shots at Russian submarines during the Cold War. Modern social-sm - particularly in Europe - is not the social-sm you seem to always seem to consider to be a precursor - or result - of commun-sm and Marx-sm.
"Excuse me?" is right to criticize your venom, incidentally. I think many of us would be very happy if you would keep such views to yourself or choose to share them privately with your equally spiteful friend "Anonymous". Such words should have no place here. But then, I suppose I didn't really think that the civility would last for long

UNPatriot,
Your entire post was "highly offensive" and the forum admin had every right to delete it. And no, you're not excused. If you want to discuss Jewish control of the Illuminati and the banking industry, it is a 'topic', but one I'm afraid you don't have the intellectual acuity to discuss with any depth. I find it absolutely incredible that some of the same people who call me a "whackjob" for trying to make people aware of the dangers of UN infiltration of our public schools via IB are admitted Holocaust deniers.
"He alone who owns the youth, gains the future." ~Adolph Hitler
Mark,
I feel very sorry for you if you are unable to differentiate between a vicious vile rant against an entire culture of people and the personal expression of how an image makes me feel. Your willingness to defend UNPatriot's ignorant intolerance after all of your rants about racism just shows how hypocritical the Left really is. To you, there's nothing wrong with expressing hatred for all Jews, but God forbid someone states they are made to feel sick by the words and sight of The One. You want that censored. Just like I'm sure you want Rush Limbaugh censored and put off the air. If I had called The One the 'n' word (which I didn't), or every African-American the same, then Jeff or Barry would have every right to delete such an offensive rant.

The part of the post that I find offensive is the part where you take no responsibility for it. Barry, that's fair comment. I have long said that posts in the blog are fairly meaningless if people will not take responsibility for their views.
Lisa, read between the lines, though; perhaps my sarcasm was ineffective. Although I do find your quote highly offensive on a personal level, and I would prefer that Bayville's children didn't have to read it in this forum, I would have hoped that we could avoid moderator censorship i.e. our own microcosm of Federal interference with free speech!
Rush Limbaugh off the air? Certainly not. He'll be a driving force to enable Obama's election for a second term.

So which is worse: Saying what you truly feel under an alias or not saying what you truly feel while using your real name?

You are absolutely correct, debating does not have to be debasing. Mr. Lamb's "concession" basically calls me a liar, illogical and lacking in common sense. I find that quite "debasing". Therefore, he who calls the first name or tosses the first insult, loses.
It is as impossible to disagree without being disagreeable just as it is impossible to agree and not be agreeable. The mere act of disagreeing makes one disagreeable to those whom which they disagree, no matter how softly the words are spoken or how carefully delivered.

Your quote is not referenced and so I don't know the context; but it seems to me (having read the Newsday article you link) that what Secretary Clinton was making clear is that terrible things have been done in the name of Christianity, just as they have been in the name of Islam. In other words, not all Muslims should be tarred with the extremist brush, and the USA realizes that.
Is that unreasonable? Or do you hold that a) all Muslims are extremists, that b) that Christianity and deeds done in its name are beyond reproach or c) that Secretary Clinton would be better to find other ways to be diplomatic?
I can see we'll need a religious thread next! That WOULD liven up the blog

It would be a stretch to say that they are disassociated, however.
Most fanaticism stems from extreme, arguably devotional, religious belief. Beyond social norms? Unacceptable in most cases? Undoubtedly. But we'd be a lot better off if we could get beyond the "My God is better than your God" stage.
In her own way, perhaps those were the kind of foundations that Secretary Clinton was trying to lay the other day during her visit to Indonesia. Those in the "nuke 'em all" camp will have no patience with such strategy, but that's exactly my point.

Fanaticism absolutely should be completely disassociated with respectable religions. Any extremist of any religion who engages in behavior which infringes on the rights of peaceful religions to exist should be isolated, identified and tagged as enemy combatants.

Differentiating between fanaticism and religion is ugly? Uglier than Patriot's offensive anti-semitism? I think not. I think that Americans need to come to the realization that SOME other people are simply WRONG in their fanatical beliefs and actions and that they need to be contained and stopped. It doesn't make us horrible monsters to defend against these violators of religious and civil rights. This comes down to civilized vs. uncivilized and there should be zero tolerance for uncivilized terrorists.
So are you saying you don't support sending 20,000 troops to Afghanistan? Or it's okay to go after those "so called terrorists" but not the ones we went after in Iraq?

This is critical news. I've been waiting to see the Parliamentary outcome. The very nature of this press release indicates that The One does not support a free and safe Israel. I find that extremely disturbing. Only if the Left-wing party had won would there be a "better" chance for peace. What crap. Iran and N. Korea are busy building nukes and this false Messiah elected by the American sheeple is in Canada while civil war rages on the Texas border. He sends 17,000 of our troops off to Afghanistan without ever visiting them first. Bush always visited our troops before a massive infusion. But not this "cool cat".

Too many threads here so I'll answer the serious ones. First, anti-Semitism and religious fanaticism is not evil and very un-Christ like. That out of the way let's address some of Lisa's points.
There have been Israeli suicide attackers and terrorists, Baruch Goldman, the Irgun and the Stern gang (of which a Prime Minister was a member of.) Nevertheless, Israel certainly suffers more from suicide attacks than Palestinians. However, Palestinians suffer more from Israel’s blockade. I'm not sure what the US gets from its relationship with Israel. Nevertheless, the truth, as always, is somewhere in the excluded middle.
Afghanistan. Why would we send troops that to that hell hole? The US needed to go in, kick their @ss and leave. History shows that Afghanistan was never a state. All the US has accomplished so far in Afghanistan is push the fanatics into Pakistan which has destabilized another sh!t state. However, Pakistan has nuclear weapons. May we have to go back to Afghanistan to kick their @ss again. Possibly, so we go, kick their @ss again and leave. We must learn from the Brits and Russians on this one.
Mexico, yes, it is pretty much a narco state. However, walls ain't gonna help. Without the US buying the drugs there would be no problem. Again, the truth lies somewhere in the middle.
Conclusion, the US cannot blame anyone for all its problems. Some, yes, all no way.

Will to Power,
Glad you made that correction. But even taking that into consideration, your reasoning appears skewed.
If the Palestinians would stop smuggling arms through tunnels from Iran and lobbing missiles into Israel, there wouldn't be a blockade and they wouldn't suffer.
You are either for sending more troops to Afghanistan or you're not. Bush's biggest failure was not getting Osama bin Laden. The surge in Iraq worked. We went in, and before Obama took office, the U.S. handed back military control of territory to the Iraqis. I believe we do need to send troops into Afghanistan but the potential escalation of a nuclear war between India and Pakistan is grave. It is the disrespect this President has for our troops who risk their lives to protect our freedoms that I have a real problem with.

Oliver North, whom I respect and admire, called the manner in which President Obama ordered our troops to Afghanistan "stealth". I concur. Obama is much too busy forcing people who have worked hard to pay their mortgages pay for people who don't DESERVE a mortgage and playing with solar panels to pay attention to our troops. It's a disgrace, an absolute disgrace.

I need answers to 3 very important questions:
1) Why do most jews in this country support Israel first and the US second?
2) Why do the american jews consider Israel their home when they are living (and a lot of them BORN) in the US ?
3) How come there are virtually no jews fighting in any branch of the US military?
Thanks.

My favorite teacher always used to say, "there's no such thing as a dumb question". I'd be willing to take your first two questions to him and see if he still defends that response.
When you tell me why black people insist on being called African-Americans, with the African first, I'll consider trying to come up with an answer to 1 & 2.
As to #3, a quick Googling of Jews in the U.S. Military led me to G.I.Jew, Semper Chai and Jews in Green, so obviously your perception is incorrect.

Thanks for providing me with the google searches. I must point out that from your information, 3 Jewish soldiers have died for this country since the Gulf War.....3! Not enough sacrifice in my book. The entire Jewish soldiers memorial from every US war on the first website was one page long...1! Not impressed Lisa.
Let me get off topic now for a bit. You know what the Hazollah is? The Hazollah is an ambulance service in NYC that only responds to victims that are Jewish. Could you imagine? I have seen the Hazollah van pass by a pedestrian who was fatally struck by a van to attend to a Hasidic with chest pains. Gods honest truth.

Seems James Carville and his fellow Dem strategists must read the Bayville Blog! I'm delighted to see that Carville is shaping up a campaign to portray Limbaugh as the face of the GOP today, following Republicans' pitiful lack of support for Obama's recent proposals.
So now.. will the GOP be the ones to entice Limbaugh to be a little more reasonable, I wonder? Or will they relish the image he creates for a new, exciting, refreshed Republican party that will once more appeal to the majority of American voters?
I doubt the latter, personally...

Delighted, are you Mark? Well that's just so special. Carville is a snivelling insipid weasel. Were you also "delighted" that your Demagogues in Congress approved the 1100 page Obasmic Manifesto without even reading it? What happened to The One's "promise" of having every bill on the White House website at least 48 hours ahead of time, you know, oh what was that word that I hate so much because everyone that wears it like a badge of courage is least likely to employ it.....TRANSPARENCY.... that was it! Are you "delighted" with Obambi's transparency Mark? That he had to rush Congress to sign that bill while he got a haircut and played b-ball? Is this a really, really, bad sitcom or the armageddon of all reality shows?
Are you "delighted" that the Dow fell to 6500, Mark? Or do you simply consider the level of the Dow to be like your false Messiah does, like polls that go up and down?
Let's hope the GOP becomes a party of Rush Limbaughs, Sean Hannitys and Sarah Palins instead of those 3 women Republirats (Arlen Specter's not a woman? prove it)who allowed this malapropism of government to transpire.

Yikes. I can imagine nothing more terrifying or anachronistic. If you are hoping that the GOP can ever restore its reputation (and I certainly am, as a two-or-more party system is essential to American democracy) this could not be seen as being a very good start. No point preaching to the converted, and no one else would listen.
Limbaugh wants this president to fail. That is equivalent to wanting this country to fail. Hannity has a countdown to 2012 on the front page of his web site. And you admire these men?!

Sigh.. the Caribbean salt air has blunted your pencil, Lisa.
The quote I reference was spoken by Limbaugh on his own radio show on January 16, 2009, five days before the FOX interview you link.
The latter is an interesting transcript, however, so thank you for the link. Limbaugh seems to be unable to distinguish between social-sm and commun-sm in his remarks on Russia and China; and oddly, sees the possibility of nationalized health care as "the end" and the precursor of unacceptable government intervention in all things. He seems to think that a significant proportion of the American people are slackers just waiting for handouts. Why is there such paranoia among those on the far right?
Limbaugh professes to be "a thinker", but I think he's out of touch.

A letter to My Employees:
There have been some rumblings around the office about the future of this company, and more specifically, your job. As you know, the economy has changed for the worse and presents many challenges. However, the good news is this: The economy doesn't pose a threat to your job. What does threaten your job however, is the changing political landscape in this country.
However, let me tell you some little tidbits of facts which might help you decide what is in your best interests.
First, while it is easy to spew rhetoric that casts employers against the employees, you have to understand that for every business owner there is a back story. This back story is often neglected and overshadowed by what you see and hear. Sure, you see me park my Mercedes outside. You've seen my big home at last year's Christmas party. I'm sure all these flashy icons of luxury conjure up some idealized thoughts about my life.
However, what you don't see is the back story. I started this company 28 years ago. At that time, I lived in a 300 square foot studio apartment for three (3) years. My entire living apartment was converted into an office so I could put forth 100% effort into building a company, which by the way, would eventually employ you.
My diet consisted of Ramen Pride noodles, because virtually every dollar I made went back into this company. I drove a rusty Toyota Corolla with a defective transmission. I didn't have time to date. Oftentimes, I stayed home on weekends, while my friends went out drinking and partying. In fact, I was married to my business --hard work, discipline, and sacrifice. Meanwhile, my friends got jobs. They worked 40 hours a week and made a modest $50K a year and spent every dime they earned. They drove flashy cars and lived in expensive homes and wore fancy designer clothes. Instead of hitting the Nordstrom's for the latest hot fashion item, I was trolling through the Good Will store extracting any clothing item that didn't look like it was birthed in the 70's. My friends refinanced their mortgages and lived a life of luxury. I, however, did not. I put my time, my money, and my life into a business with a vision that eventually, some day, I too, will be able to afford these luxuries my friends supposedly had.
So, while you physically arrive at the office at 9 AM, mentally check in at about noon, and then leave at 5 PM, I don't. There is no "off" button for me. When you leave the office, you are done, and you have a weekend all to yourself. I, unfortunately, do not have that freedom. I eat and breathe this company every minute of the day. There is no rest. There is no weekend. There is no happy hour. Every day this business is attached to my hip like a one-year old special-needs child. You, of course, only see the fruits of that garden -- the nice house, the Mercedes, the vacations... You never realize the back story and the sacrifices I've made.

Now, the economy is falling apart and I, the guy that made all the right decisions and saved his money, have to bail-out all the people who didn't. The people that overspent their paychecks suddenly feel entitled to same luxuries that I earned and sacrificed a decade of my life for.
Yes, business ownership has its benefits, but the price I've paid is steep and not without wounds.
Unfortunately, the cost of running this business, and employing you, is starting to eclipse the threshold of marginal benefit and let me
tell you why: I am being taxed to death, and the government thinks I don't pay enough. I have State taxes, Federal taxes, Property taxes, Sales and Use taxes, Payroll taxes, Workers Compensation taxes, Unemployment taxes, and taxes on taxes. I have to hire a tax man to manage all these taxes and then guess what? I have to pay taxes for employing
him. Government mandates and regulations and all the accounting that goes with it now occupy most of my time. On October 15, I wrote a check to the US Treasury for $288,000 for quarterly taxes. You know what my "stimulus" check was? Zero. Nada. Zilch.
The question I have is this: Who is stimulating the economy? Me, the guy who has provided 14 people good paying jobs and serves over 2,200,000 people per year with a flourishing business? Or, the single mother sitting at home pregnant with her fourth child waiting for her next welfare check? Obviously, government feels the latter is the economic stimulus of this country.
The fact is, if I deducted (Read: Stole) 50% of your paycheck, you'd quit and you wouldn't work here. I mean, why should you? That's nuts. Who wants to get rewarded only 50% of their hard work? Well, I agree which is why your job is in jeopardy.
Here is what many of you don't understand ... to stimulate the economy you need to stimulate what runs the economy. Had suddenly government mandated to me that I didn't need to pay taxes, guess what? Instead of depositing that $288,000 into the Washington black-hole, I would have spent it, hired more employees, and
generated substantial economic growth. My employees would have enjoyed the wealth of that tax cut in the form of promotions and better
salaries. But you can forget it now.
When you have a comatose man on the verge of death, you don't defibrillate and shock his thumb thinking that will bring him back
to life, do you? Or, do you defibrillate his heart? Business is at the heart of America and always has been. To restart it, you must stimulate it, not kill it.
Suddenly, the power brokers in Washington believe the poor of America are the essential drivers of the American economic engine. Nothing could be further from the truth and this is the type of change you can keep.

So where am I going with all this? It's quite simple. If any new taxes are levied on me or my company, my reaction will be swift and simple. I fire you. I fire your co-workers. You can then plead with the government to pay for your mortgage, your SUV, and your child's future. Frankly, it isn't my problem anymore.
Then, I will close this company down, move to another country, and retire. You see, I'm done. I'm done with a country that penalizes the productive and gives to the unproductive. My motivation to work and to provide jobs will be destroyed, and with it, will be my citizenship. If you lose your job, it won't be at the hands of the economy; it will be at the hands of a political hurricane that swept through this country, steam-rolled the constitution, and will have changed its landscape forever. If that happens, you can find me sitting on some foreign beach, retired, and with no employees to worry about.
Respectfully,
Your Boss

Actually, my cruise was quite enlightening. I was pleased to meet wonderful people from all over, 99% of whom were CONSERVATIVES! At 1st we were a bit dismayed because everyone seated at our dinner table were in their 20's and we felt like old farts but they turned out to be the greatest bunch. One couple were these fabulous gay guys from Paris who run a news channel there. We actually discussed the pros and cons of nationalized health care, which I'm sure you are aware they have in France. Here's the deal: Don't get sick on weekends or holidays and if you need an operation, the government is going to determine who needs that operation more than you and sometimes make you wait 5-6 months before being able to schedule it.
Another cruise member recently graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology as their Valedictorian. His opinion on American politics? "We are so f--ked".
As I read Guilty by Ann Coulter, I got many thumbs ups and nods of approval from fellow cruisers. NOT ONE person said, "How could you read what the mean crazy woman writes?"
Guess WHAT Mark? A SIGNIFICANT portion of Americans ARE slackers waiting for their Obamamannah. People are actually quitting their jobs and defaulting on their mortgages to get "saved". IT'S A DISGRACE! So you keep burying your head in the sand and calling US "paranoid" (a really, really, tired "comeback" by the Liber loonies, if I do say so myself)resorting to name calling instead of EVER debating an actual issue.

Curious as to how the more serious British press have covered the Obama/Brown meeting, I'm disappointed to find that none of them seems to find your concerns worth a mention. Did you see any Russian submarines from your cruise ship, Lisa? I reckon you'd see them even if they weren't there..
I do have a story you'd like, though. Back in the '80s I was once aboard a Russian cruise ship out of Sydney, Australia - as you may know, there were several operating from Australia at that time - and doing my best to enjoy the cuisine, which required some imagination. One evening, somewhere between Noumea and Fiji if I recall, an announcement was made that NO passengers were to go on deck between 2:00-3:00 a.m. Well, this being around the time the discos were grinding to a halt, a few of us did, of course. Had to avoid a few hefty looking Ruskie matelots in the process, but these things can be done when you are adequately emboldened with Stolichnaya. Anyway, a peep over the side uncovered the somewhat amazing sight of a Russian nuclear submarine alongside - fully alongside - storing from the cruise ship. Quite amazing to see in mid-ocean.
And I survived without being arrested. Being robbed on the Trans-Siberian Railway is another story, but that can wait for another time

n South Los Angeles, a 4-plex was destroyed by a fire.
A Nigerian family of six con artists lived on the first floor, and all six died in the fire.
An Islamic group of seven welfare cheats, illegals from Kenya, lived on the second floor, and they, too, all perished in the fire.
6 LA, Hispanic, Gang Banger, ex-cons, lived on the 3rd floor and they too, died.
A lone, white couple lived on the top floor. The couple survived the fire.
Jesse Jackson, John Burris and Al Sharpton were furious. They flew into LA, met with the fire chief, on camera. They loudly demanded to know why the Blacks, Black Muslims and Hispanics all died in the fire and only the white couple lived..?
The fire chief said, “Simple--- the couple were away at work”

So you'd disagree with the view of our most respected and capable military leader, Lisa? Who SHOULD Obama listen to? Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck?
"WASHINGTON (Reuters, March 8) - U.S. Army Gen. David Petraeus said on Wednesday that negotiations with some members of the Taliban could provide a way to reduce violence in sections of Afghanistan gripped by an intensifying insurgency.
"If there are people who are willing to reconcile (with the government), then that would be a positive step in some of these areas that have actually been spiraling downward," said Petraeus, who will soon take up responsibility for U.S. operations in Afghanistan."
We can't go on bombing civilians for ever in the hope that we'll hit the occasional terrorist. Afghanistan is a collection of tribes, not a nice office with a door to knock on. It does seem that the lessons learned from British and Russian failures in Afghanistan in the past might finally be sinking in.
We were quite chummy with the locals in the recent past, after all. Using third party channels, our own C.I.A. supported terrorist movements in Afghanistan during the Soviet invasion, by way of its financial support, and the supply of arms, to the Mujihadeen; which were then, of course, painted as being brave nationalists and worthy insurgents rather than religious fundamentalists.
The best-known C.I.A.-trained terrorist is Osama bin Laden, of course. How the world turns...

As to agreeing to a "global" currency"........BALONEY! What is Geithner doing to shore up the value of the dollar? What? He is selling us down the river. Now Obamabi is going to have a trade war with Mexico over 98 trucks? Good going, dumbo. What an embarrassment.

Off topic rant: I just pray that Ruth Madoff gets handcuffed and thrown in jail. Or at the very least, they strip her of every red cent. Actually, I like the latter option, this way she would be forced to get a job at minimum wage. I'll bet she's never worked a day in her life.

And what of "the boys"? Do they get off the hook for the $31M they 'borrowed' from Daddy Dearest? I have a better idea. They should make Ruthie have to use whatever money she can collect from getting back the deposits on discarded cans and force her to spend at least 8 hours in Saks on a major sale day and then help all of the other customers out to their cars with their packages!

Patriot,
Actually, the level of hypocrisy in Congress and the White House makes me even sicker than the deranged greed and criminality of Madoff. Madoff wasn't elected by the public to represent them, he was a private crook and people gave him their millions to invest. No one coerced them to do so. Why hasn't Obama come down hard on the SEC over this Madoff scandal? Congress has rammed this porkulus bill down our throats, so urgent they didn't have time to read it, and now we discover the "Dodd Amendment" was immaculately conceived. Geithner reminds me of Damien in the Omen and our idiot President is comparing his lack of bowling skills to the Special Olympics on the Jay Leno show. All of this phony outrage over bonus payouts that could have been prevented if the White House didn't twist arms to keep the clause in, now passing an unConstitutional bill to tax at 90%.......beyond the pale.
Impeach Obama!
Impeach Dodd!
Impeach Pelosi!

Good gracious me! Lisa making references to an atheist! But then, of course, he's a YouTube Glenn-Beck inspired Tom Paine you link, not the real banana.
Coincidentally, I just happen to be rereading Bayville Library's only copy of Thomas Paine's Collected Works. He is astonishingly readable, indeed, considering how old he is. I'd post more about the real story behind Common Sense, rather than the appropriation of Paine's name that Lisa refers to, but sadly around here it seems that Lisa is the only, and her own, audience
You'll have to thwart this apathy if you're going to get your message (whatever it may be) out by 2012, Lisa...

Paine was NOT an atheist:

And just curious, do you have access to Barry's site analytics? How do you know how many people are reading but not posting here?

Oh, my statement was contentious, for sure, but I happen to draw my own conclusion that in honesty he was. Big subject, another thread sometime perhaps, doesn't belong here. Meanwhile, from his Age of Reason (and quoted in Wikipedia, as it happens):
"I do not believe in the creed professed by the Jewish church, by the Roman church, by the Greek church, by the Turkish church, by the Protestant church, nor by any church that I know of. My own mind is my own church.
All national institutions of churches, whether Jewish, Christian or Turkish, appear to me no other than human inventions, set up to terrify and enslave mankind, and monopolize power and profit."
Mark
Reply to this
Mark,
Paine opposed national institutions of churches, but believed in God. If we are going to be HONEST, then you will admit you were wrong because one doesn't have to belong to a church or a temple to believe in God. Likewise, just because someone doesn't belong to a church or temple, doesn't automatically make them an atheist. It is a false presumption on your part.

John Holdren is eminently qualified for this position and is no more uniquely responsible for "the future of our atmosphere and weather here on earth" than the very many other scientists and governments who are studying climate change and the implications of unprecedently rapid global warming.

I would love to see those vacated buildings leveled. Bayville could use a real park, with grass and trees (not like the "park" in town) or maybe even a dog park. There are no shortage of dog owners on the north shore who would like a dog park closer than Manhassett or Wantaugh. I agree something needs to be done especially during these hard times. At the very least, the owners of these building need to be held accountable for the condition of thier property.

I disagree with Mr. Jones that both the Right and the Left are unaware of this One World Order plot by the Bilderberg Group. The Right has been aware of it and warning of it for years, the Left has remained grossly in the dark, attaching labels such as conspiracy theorists, ignorant and paranoid to those among us who know the truth.

So - I understand there are already 20 criminal fraud cases pending regarding the TARP money. Obama is the weakest, most offensive, inexperienced, clueless President this country has ever elected. His 3 continent apology tour and pandering to dictators is disgusting. The only thing that will keep him from getting impeached is the fact that Biden is a total retard and even more incompetent.
Has your home value gone up yet? No? Didn't think so. Have you tried to get an equity loan lately? I had one I got in 2007 and my credit balance was just eliminated because the bank devalued my house by almost $200,000.
Every single ACLU attorney and member of moveon.org should be put in a boat off the coast of Somalia WITHOUT any weapons. How DARE the ACLU bring these ridiculous lawsuits and devalue the power of our CIA and national security! What happened to "moving forward" and "bipartisanship"? What happened to all that promised "transparency"? Soros made it go away?
The collusion and Chicago politics between the Obama administration, Soros and GE, makes Blagojevich look like a Kindergartner.
We are so screwed. And make no mistake about it, Bush & Paulson kicked off this rapid catapult into social-sm, but Obama has quadrupled and intensified it in record time. This is not about right and left anymore, it is about freedom vs. fascism, the U.S. Constitution vs. the UN Charter.
You like polls - I understand Biden is LESS popular than Cheney was. LOL!
http://realclearpolitics.blogs.time.com/2009/04/23/vp-shock-biden-less-popular-than-cheney/
What is incomprehensible to me is the intellectual disconnect of people like yourself who in the above poll, feel the country is headed in the wrong direction but somehow still approve of the job Obama is doing... it doesn't make sense, particularly when combined with Congress' dismal approval ratings. If President Obama is incapable of controlling President Pelosi, how can we possibly count on him to defend our country against potential nuclear attacks from N. Korea, Pakistan and Iran?
And that Robert Gibbs, boy he's a gem. Ya sure he isn't a spokesperson for LVCSD? LOL!

Hi,
Defendants hired real estate appraisers, including co-defendant Esteban Valenzuela, to prepare inflated appraisals for the identified properties; the inflated appraisals were then used to fraudulently induce lenders to believe that the loans being given to the "straw buyers" would be fully secured by the value of the properties being purchased.

Whether you agree with Limbaughs politics or not your letter would be better received if you would state the facts as they are and not cloud truth with personal bias. What Limbaugh suggested was that he wished that Obamas plans such as they are would fail. Any adult understands exactly what he meant when he said that. Heed your own advice re: unconstructive attacks.
Reply to this
Hello Trish
I'm sorry, but I thought I did state the "facts as they are". On March 8th in this thread I quoted this transcript of Russ Limbaugh's spoken words on his show:
"I would be honored if the Drive-By Media headlined me all day long: “Limbaugh: I Hope Obama Fails.” Somebody’s gotta say it."
I don't see that my interpretation of these words displays any more "personal bias" than yours does, surely? Obama's plans? Of course, yes, what else would Limbaugh mean? But if you cannot see this pronouncement as being unconstructive, I am surprised.
So I'm not sure why you have surfaced all these months later to lecture me!
I have said before that I would give my full support to whomsoever had been elected as our newest President, particularly given the grevious harm done to this country by the last administration. Do we need checks and balances? Sure we do, and it would be good if the Republican party could find its feet again and cease wallowing in its leaderless confusion. Farcical calls from some in this forum to "IMPEACH OBAMA NOW" reflect far more bias than I am prone to show, I think!
All I want is for this country to succeed. Verbally tearing down those who have been democratically elected into the positions they hold just seems ridiculous to me; even, unpatriotic.

This President is a disaster. Those who voted for "Hope" and "Change" are realizing that they got "Hype" and "Chumpchange" (except for Mark and Jeanine Garafoolo). There's nothing shameful in admitting you were fooled by the rhetoric. Obama is a radical left-wing ideologue whose goal is to destroy the U.S. economy and move us to One World Government.
I don't want America "re-made". Six months in office and this clown, if his sociali-t proposals are passed, will thrust our country into a total debt liability of $24 TRILLION!!!!!!
You CAN'T borrow and spend your way out of bankruptcy (unless you're Goldman Sachs and AIG). Where's the TRANSPARENCY?????? The moron in charge of Freddie and Fannie when they went belly-up is now overseeing TARP! Does that make ANY sense?
WAKE UP AMERICA!!!! This President is wiping his a$$ with our Constitution and people are too afraid to stand up and say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
A true patriot understands the founding principles upon which our Constitution was written. Nowhere in the Constitution does it say everyone is ENTITLED to universal healthcare or to have the wealthy provide for all.
Yesterday's Rassmussen poll finds 50% of Americans OPPOSE Obama's healthcare plan vs. 44% in favor.
Stop the lies. Stop the BS. Stop undermining our national security and apologizing to the rest of the world. Make these clowns in Congress READ THE BILLS!!!
Obama MUST fail- it's the only way to protect the sovereignty of the United States and our individual liberties.

Is he kidding me with this health care reform? Where is the 1/3rd of the cost going to come from? He said he would never support a taxing of the middle class but I have my doubts.
I work damn hard for my family's health benefits. I get up every day and I'm gone from home and family for sometimes 14 hours a day so I could have the best health care for them. Why should the guy who hasn't done a damn thing his whole life be able to get free health care? This proposal is rewarding lazy people. I think this is completely unfair. Well, nobody "forced" you to pull the lever for B. Hussein Obama. I'm just sorry I wasn't able to convince you beforehand that McCain/Palin truly were "the lesser of two evils".
The Repubs never should have picked McCain. In this youth oriented society, his age worked against him. Palin turned off the pro-abortionists and animal rights activists. I still say she's a lot closer to Mensa than Biden will ever be.
It is what it is. The Dems are starting to eat their own. 2010 will see the Repubs regain control of Congress just like 1994 as the REAL racists like "call her Senator she worked so hard for the title" Barbara Boxer continue to be exposed for their hypocrisy. More and more black Christian Americans like Thomas Sowell and Henry Alford will come to resent the Liberal agenda and realize that Conservative values, are their values.
I recall your strong anti-Semitic position and while I never advocate prejudice against an entire ethnicity, there's something to be said for how Obama has surrounded himself with powerful Jews (Rahmbo deadfish, Larry Summers (changed his name from Samuelson), Ben Bernanke, David Axelrod, etc. ... not to mention how neatly Goldman Sachs is fitting into the Obama Oligarchy... all while attempting to downplay and negate Christianity in the U.S.
I am glad you've seen the light Patriot. Have faith. This wrong will be righted.

Anyone else having a problem getting their car dealer to hand over the new car (via CARS program?) A north shore honda dealer refuses to give me mine even though it was paid for and they already received confirmation from the DOT that the CARS application was received. Clearly against the law, I think the government shouldn't pay the dealer for any clunker deals until they release the new vehicle to the buyers.

How did conspiracy theories become mainstream? Both sides seem to be grossly inflating reality. Reality is things are broken. Past policy wasn't working. New policy doesn't seem to be working. No one is happy and everyone is pointing fingers. Yet, I don't hear of any constructive solutions.
I don't care what anyone says, health care is broken if an insurance company can turn down a kid with cancer. Do I think Obama's plan is the perfect solution? Hell no. Still, how do you stop the person with ideas without an idea of your own?
Granted, Obama is a disappointment, but come one now! Overthrow the government? Stock survival food? Arm yourselves? Really? And how was Bush any more respectful of the constitution then Obama? It was under him that it became easier to search homes and wire tap. Neither party represents small government anymore. It all depends on where you want them going big on.
The two party system is broken, but turning to extremists on either side isn't fixing that either. It only makes everyone on either side look like complete loons.
